A wake up call!
Things have been quiet for some time as far as Our Cimla and the LDP process has been concerned. That unfortunately doesn’t mean that matters such as candidate sites have gone away. They are still very much alive and kicking. We all need to remain vigilant.
Representatives of Our Cimla – Our Future attended a very productive Stakeholder meeting at Neath Civic Centre on May 10. This was an informative and productive gathering which ended on the positive consensus that with the figure of 250 new homes being the predicted requirement of the Neath spatial area over the 15 years following the eventual implementation of the Local Development Plan it would be better to spread these across the area rather than attach them to any one or two current communities. It was felt that this approach would be gentler and more organic.
However all of the candidate sites, including those within the area represented by Our Cimla, currently remain ‘live’ and therefore must retain our opposition. We should remain focussed on the reasons they generated so much reaction in the first place and build on these.
It is not sufficient to generate petitions and the like, the objections and observations must be cold, hard common sense facts. If not then any reaction will simply be classed as a ‘Not in my back yard’ scenario.
A further stakeholder meeting is likely to be held in September followed, a short while later, by the revelation of the pre-deposit plan and a further consultation period.
It is important that all our views continue to be expressed throughout this period so that the LDP team is aware of the fundamental reasons that the candidate sites referred to elsewhere on this site plus any others in the area are unacceptable.
Please keep checking this site regularly in order that you are up to date with developments and potential meetings.
We must acknowledge that Neath Port Talbot Council has a legal obligation to produce a Local Development Plan for the County Borough. What we can all help ensure is that they are provided with sound, clearly thought out observations to help them achieve the best possible result, one with which we can all be happy.
Remember: It’s Our Cimla – Our Future
It is likely that a meeting will be arranged shortly, probably at Cimla Community Centre where those interested can be brought further up to date with developments and plans to ensure the voice of our group is made can be made. If you would like details of this please let us know. See our contact page for ways in which you can do this. You may of course have already received an e-mail alerting you to the news above.

Thank you all
Many thanks to all of you who attended the meeting in Cimla Community Centre. The response was overwhelming and certainly showed the strength of feeling. We hope to use a larger venue for the next meeting shortly. Voluntary donations raised approx £350 to help with running costs.
